HORTICULTURAL SOCIETY.
An Exhibition of the Horticultural Society took place on Tuesday last, December 2d, at Mr. Davis's Saloon, Lambton Quay, which we regret to say proved a very indifferent one. Many of those who were usually the greatest contributors to these exhibitions, on this occasion, did not send any thing ; and there was only one contributor from the Hutt district. This may perhaps in part be attributed to the late unfavorable weather. It was also unfortunate that the Exhibition
took place during the sittings of the Supreme Court, which in some degree interfered with it." But whatever the cause of failuie, we hope the Subscribers will, on the next occasion, redouble their efforts, and ser»d every thing they have worth exhibiting, that these exhibitions may not from indifference on their part lose i heir interest with the public. The room, which is very well adapted for the put pose of these exhibitions, was liberally lent to the Society for the occasion, by its proprietor, Mr. R. Davis. The following account of the oil and whalebone taken this season has been obligingly furnished to us by Mr. Macarthy, who has taken great pains in procuring information from the owners of the different stations. Since the abstract was published last week, Mr. Macarthy has procured additional information respecting the stations to the southward, from the arrival of the Scotia, which has enabled him to make some important additions and corrections: —
