ENGLISH NEWS.
The King and Queen of the Belgians were 1 on a visit to her Majesty. Sir \V. Follet, the Attorney-General died on the 29th of June. J. Somes, Esq,, M.P., Governor of thef New Zealand Company, died on the 25th of June, alter a very brief illness. Mr. Hutt's motion for the admission of Australian com on the same terms as corn from Cauada, was lost by a majority of 54 j 93 having voted for the motion, and 147 against it. Both Houses of Parliament had sanctioned the payment of a pension of £1500 a-year for 'ife to Sir Henry Pottinger, for his services in India. Mr. Villiers' annual motion on the Corn Laws was rejected by a majority of two hundred and fifty-four to one hundred and twentytwo. Mr. O'Connell and the Repeal members, who had absented themselves from Parliament from the beginning of the session, took their seats on the 16th June, the avowed object be-« ing that the Irish Banks' Bill being before the House, rendered their presence necessary. The demand for colonial wool was very great owing to the deficiency of the English clip, caused by the immense sacrifice of sheep la-t autumn for want of, fodder. The defi-» ciency is estimated at sixty millions of pounds* Prices were well sustained. The apprehension of war with the United States ha>l blown over, President Polk having sobered his valour at the .Uctation of a wiser discretion.
