To the Editor of the New Zealand Spectator.
J*in,—During my absence from horns some ill disposed peisons called Government survey••••s, have, I presume, bf-en making rather too free on my land, measuring and pegaing out what I suppose ihey call native clearings. 11) eg to inform those trespassers that 1 have not any l.md that has been occupied In the natives for seven years pust, with the exception of one piece which thpy cut ihe week after the Governor was here; he (the Governor) told the natives to cut no more of the hush which the settlets occupied, this pL'ce they cut some months after I had enclosed it with a fence, the fence they destroyed in burning ihe bush, whether this piece of land belongs to the native* or me, I leave to reasonable men vi judge. I beg ttf recommend those gents if they must be doing mi-chief to earn their salar es, to be^in at high .iater maik and survey for the natives the whole of Thorndon Flat, not forgdiing the Majo's garden, as that has been occupied by the natives lung since the old clearings on the hills. J. White!. Wade's town. Nov. 11,1845. P.S.—The result of these proceedings has* aN ready brought A poition of my fence duwu, and a herd of natives pigs found their way in, turning i.p the roots of the grass I have to keep my cattle on, and they dared me to turn them out, as their adviser told them the land is theirs.
