To the Editor of the New Zealand Spectator and C ook's Straits Guardian.
Sir, —Through the mediunj of your valuable journal, I would respectfully suggest to his Excellency the Governor one means of augmenting the revenue, which it is possible might not have come under his consideration, viz., the propriety of compelling all persons hawking goods, either in town or country, to take up a license. As this is the case in the sister colony, and at home, I see no reason why it should not be adopted here, especially as his Excellency seems at a loss how to raise funds sufficient for supporting the machinery of Government. I remain, Sir, Respectfully, . A Regular Trader. Wellington, Dec. 16, 1844.
