To the Editor of the New Zealand Spetator and Cook's Straits Guardian.
Sir, —On the evening of Thursday, the 26th ult., I saw a fine Comet, (which I am told was first discovered on the night of Sunday, the 22nd.,) hearing ahout two points to the westward of South. The night was very unfavourable for taking observations, but I have since had several clearer views. It is coming rapidly towards the north, and is now close to the constellation Pavo. I have made a few observations, which I will send you next week. I remain, Sir, Your's, &c. &c. W. M. S. January 3, 1845.
