Commercial News.

The amount of Customs duties received at this port for the week ending January 13, 1876, was as under :

The import trade has been exceedingly quiet during the week, the few transactions being merely to cover present wants of the retailers, and there is an entire absence of speculation. Dealers operate with great caution, in the face of the large stocks held by importers and the continually increasing amount of goods coming forward, prices are consequently difficult to quote, and must ultimately be lower, if shipments are forced into the market for absolute sale.

The Pleiades arrived on the 12th with a fuU cargo from London for this port. In colonial produce things have been quiet in the extreme, and, with the exception of a few minor transactions in oats, there is absolutely nothing to report. Prices remain at our last week's rates. Flour, £ll 10s. to £l2 per ton. Butter in kegs, nominal, at 9d. per lb , with no sale. Cheese, moderate sale at 10id. Hams and bacon, do., at Is. and Is. 2d. per lb. Oats, dull, at 2s. 9d. for ordinary feed and 3s. 3d. per bushel for good milling sorts.
