The " New Zealand Herald " insinuates that the " Cross " mining reporter is in league with some Auckland broker. In consequence of an article in the " Evening Star " journal Morrin assaulted and horsewhipped Mr Utting of the "Herald" in the theatre. As it was found that Utting was not the writer, Morrin made a bumble apology. On the following day Mr Neville Walker entered the " Star " office and struck Mr Brett on the chin. The latter retaliated briskly and knocked one of Walker's teeth out, giving him a good beating, He also laid an information for assault, and Walker was fined £lO and bound over to keep the peace for six months.
