STERLING FUNDS
Sir, —Mr. Nash's statement published in Thursday's Hkkai.i> makes oije's blood boil. Speaking about the momentary healthy position of the sterling funds, he >mugly says, "wo are in a nice position." Hut who put. him in that nice position? The farmer. In the last 12 months exports were a record—ll,ooo and 99 per cent of this is larm produce. This amount is in New Zealand currency. The N.'W Zealand farmer has pulled the spendthrift Labour Government out of a nasty hole, but what is his reward;-' Not a farthing more for his produce—nothing but the broken promises of .Mr. Nash that the farmer would bo compensated for increased co<ts. Personally, I am having a bitter experience, for tho costs of running a farm are getting appalling. No doubt Mr. Nash will now pose as a great and capable Minister of Finance, but it is -.lie toil and sweat of the farmer, his wife and children that have built up his sterling funds and he treats them as ignorant serfs. He has got the farmers shackled. Raglan. W. P Kenah.
