MILITARY BALL
ARMiY SERVICE CORPS FIRST COMPOSITE COMPANY GAY SCENE AT RIALTO A large number of people attended the annual ball arranged bv the officers and men of the First Composite Company of the New Zealand Army Service Corps at the Rialto Ballroom, New-j market, last night. With coloured bunting lining the walls of the dancing room and giving bright touches of colour to the lounge, a festivo atmosphere was imparted to the scene. Bright musical numbers were played by the Blind Institute orchestra. Stalf-Scr-geant C. A. Churchill was in charge of the arrangements in the ballroom. Among those present were: —Mrs. W. A. T. DARGAVILLE FUNCTION LOCAL RETURNED AIEN The Northern Wairoa returned soldiers held their annual ball in the Royal Theatre, visitors from all parts of the north journeying to Dargaville to attend this enjoyable function. The hall was most strikingly decorated. The returned soldiers' emblem, the Flanders poppy, held pride of place, while native greenery, arum lilies and erica were used to present a charming scene.

WANGANUI OLD GIRLS
COLLEGE DAYS RECALLED ENJOYABLE SOCIAL EVENING A pleasant evening was spent on Monday by the Auckland branch of the Wanganui Old Girls' Association in the New Women's Club rooms. There were about 60 members present, and Miss AL Metcalfe presided. An interesting address on her travels in the East was given by Mrs. Nello Porter, with particular reference trt Alanila and Hongkong. She also illustrated her talk with articles brought from the places she visited. Mrs. W. S. Briber entertained with songs, and supper concluded a very pleasant evening. Before leaving the school song was sung.
