METRO-COLLEGE RETAINS STATUS
Metro-College was fully extended in retaining its position in the senior competition against the challenge of Abels in the curtain-raiser game at filandford Park on Saturday. A fast and attractive match ro suited in a draw. The hard condition of the ground and the dry ball gave the players ail opportunity to exploit open methods. The most noticeable wcalmess m the method* of the teams was c, tendency to kick the ball wildly Although it secured an early goal, Abels was foroed back on tho defensive for the greater part of the first spell. In tho second half, however, the exchanges were much mom even, tho play fluctuating at a fast pace. Good anticipation Bhown by Cameron saved his side several time*, the custodian leaving his goal on occasions to repulse dangerous raids. Jones and Alexander provided a staunch defence, kicking powerfully in the faco of Metro-College's attacks. In tho halves Gill and Owens were prominent for good defence and clever constructive work.. Robinson proved a dangerous wingman, his speed and fine shooting ability bning a source of worry to the opposition. Clever inside work wns performed by Hamilton, while McLeay and Wright penetrated nicely at times. . A good exhibition was given by Gavan in the Metro-College goal, although he was caught in possession a few times. The fullbacks. Speed and Holraan, erected a stronp defence, while good initiative tactics were shown by Cronan and C. Flyeer. In tho Metro-Coilege forward lino A. Flyger, Cleal und McDougall revealed good form, the last-named opening up tho play very clovsecured Abels' goal, while Cleal netted for Metro-College. Mr. J. Luke waE referee.
