The Modern Young Miss.
In form, I admit she is pretty With plenty of love in her e\ es But no one can say she is witty. And no one can say she is wise. In manner she's light and she's airy — The sweet little innocent thing. Id post-office, pay-desk, and dairy, We greet her as though she weie spring. She loves to be just in the fashion However absurd it may be ; For dressing with her is a passion, As smoking is pleasure to me. We like her, whatever her failing. But — where should we be without Q U £q ? When married, her husband is wailing, "She can't cook a dinner for nuts." — Fred Walhs, in -'Reynold's."
The Ballet Girl.
With complexion like the rose 'Mid the snows, Due to powder on her nose, I suppose, She twirls upon her toes In abbreviated clothes. And exhibits spangled hose To the beaux.
When the cruel time bestows Adipose, Fairy parts and those She outgrows, And murmuringly goes To the very hindmost rows, To pirouette and pose With the "crows." When life frayed and faded grows. Like her bows, She in garrets sits and sows Furbelows, Till her wearied eyelids close In the peace of death's repose , Is she reaping what she sows 0 Heaven knows. "Lippmcott's Magazine."
