Association Football.

As the season has now ended, and referees and players have put their whistles and shin-guards on the shelves for six or seven months, it is but fitting to pay a tribute to Mr. A. Williams, the genial, hard-working; secretary of the Referees' Association. He was entrusted with the secretarial duties during the seaon, and lie has carried them, out with a deal of satisfaction both to himself amd the members of +he Association. « * * T"be good intentions of the Swifts Club in sending an eleven to Palmers, ton Nortih may not have a very sialui-ary effect. By reason of the absence of many of the senior players, the team was a very piebald one. For instance, Ihiff and George Williams 1 were playing in the forward division. * * * It is the aim of the Wellington Football Association to despatch the very best teams available to districts to play the opening games. The desire is commendable, and, with a view of placing the game on a sound footing at Masterton, the Wellington Football Association should send up a team at the commencement of next season — say, at Easter.

The "^District Boys' Competition" cannot be considered a success. It was practically admitted, at a recent meeting of the Management Committee of the Association, that there had been mismanagement and neglect on somebody's part. It is a 1 remarkable state of affairs when the Association is not cognisant of the position of the boys' competition. No one has keipt a record of the wins and losses, and as to who is leading is a problem to be solved. The roundabout method of asking the respective teams their wins and losses is. really absurd.
