Yachting.
The rating races of the Port Nicholson Yacht Club were held last Saturday. In the first-class event, lorangi finished first at 4hr olmm, Waitangi at 4hr 53min 15sec, and Rainbow at 4hr 58min 53sec. Cheers were interchanged when the yachts returned to their moorings, and Mr. Turnbull was warmly congratulated on his success. The second-class event was won bv the Mahina, with Siren second. The Mahaki broke her rudder off Korokoro. The champion four-oared crew, the Kawatiris, were entertained by the crew of the vacht Rainbow at a picnic at Lowry Bay on Sunday last. pleasant sail across the harbour, anchor was dropped just oft the wharf, and all hands and the cook wont ashore to dine. A sumptuous repast was disposed of w ith sharpened apnetites, and then, aftei a Btroli about the trout ponds, the party returned to town, highly plea.sed w ith their little excursion. The Wanganui rowing men were also entertained at Lowry Bay by the Mantana's crew.
