There is a peculiar significance about that increase of £250 in the salary of the Agent-General. What does it mean ? Are we to accept it as an indication that Mr Beeves is to fill the position for a further period ; or has the increase been made in anticipation of the transference of the Bight Honourable B. J. Seddon ' from the Treasury benches and overwork in New Zealand to the ease and distinction ■ of the Agent-Generalcy in London. Mr Seddon says he will not leave the colony while his health allows him to remain ; but his health at the present moment is a j very doubtful quantity. >
