WHEREAS several instances have occurred within a week past, of Animals having been maimed aud wounded, belonging to Gentlemen wellknown in the Settlement; and whereas my Old Horse was brought home on Thursday the - 29th ult. severely injured, apparently by the cut of a tomahawk, the Maori who came to my house with the intelligence peremptorily refusing to say where he was until he extorted a payment of two shillings, but stating lie would bleed to death if not instantly attended to : I hereby offer a Reward of Two Pounds, on the discovery and conviction of the perpetrator of this cruelty. J\ T a Meeting of the Military Sub-Committee to arrange the details of forming a Military Force for the defence of Wellington : It was unanimously resolved, That the whole force do meet foij muster,-with and without arms,, on Thorndon Flat, on Sunday next, at 9 o’clock in the morning precisely ; and on the Sunday following, at Te Aro; and so on alternately, until further orders, and that officers commanding Companies first assembling on their private parade arc requested to bring as many men as possible armed, and march them-in order to the place of rendezvous.
