MUNICIPAL COUNCIL.

.Saturday, July S, 1843. COUNCIL MET. Present:—Geo. Hunter, mayor, W. Lyon, E. Johnson, John Dorset, John Wade, Robert Waitt. Letter read from James Wilsen, making an offer to rent thirty acres of the Town Belt. Letter read from John Plimer, making a similar offer. Letter read from James Muir Thomas Mackenzie, and-George Fellingham, making an. offer to rent twelve acres of the Town Belt. To meet again on Monday morning at ten o’clock. Monday, July 10, 1843. Council met. Present: —Geo. Hunter, mayor, W. Lyon, E. Johnson, John Dorset, Robert Jenkins, William Guyton, Robert Waitt, W. Fitzherbert. The purpose of this special meeting was to take into consideration the propriety of addressing the two Houses of Parliament on the late calamitous affair at Wairou.

It was proposed by Mr. Lyon, and seconded' by Mr. Waitt, that the mayor, with .Messrs., Fitzherbert, Dorset, and Johnson, be appointed, to prepare a statement of the late calamitous affair at Wairou for the purpose of embodying the same in petitions to both Houses of Parliament, claiming the protection due to us as Rritish subjects. Carried unanimously. Proposed by Dr. Dorset, and seconded by E. Johnson. —That Messrs. Hunter, Guyton, and Fitzherbert, in their capacity as magistrates, do. request a copy of all the depositions, taken on, the late affair at Wairou, for the information oi the committee appointed by the Town Council to prepare the petitions to parliament. Carried unanimously. Moved by Mr. Johnson, and seconded by Mr. Lyon. —That a suitable address be prepared by the Corporation condoling with the inhabitants of Nelson, and forwarded to the sheriff of that settlement, to be communicated to them. Carried unanimously. Mr. Hunter moved, and Mr. Fitzherbert seconded. —That a copy of the address to the settlers at Nelson be sent to Col. Wakefield.. Carried unanimously. Moved by Mr. Fitzherbert, seconded by Lyon. —That the Committee be empowered to wait on Mr. Slpain requesting ,him to give them any information he may have it in his power to afford them. 'Carried unanimously. Adjourned to Wednesday at TO o’clock.
