MUNICIPAL COUNCIL.
Wednesday, March Btli, 1842. Council met—Present. Mr. Hunter, Chair, Mr. Lyon, Mr. Wade, Mr. Guyton, Mr. Hort, Mr. Jenkins, Mr. Fitzherbert, Mr. Scott. Minutes of former Meeting read and confirmed. Mr. Lyon proposed, and Mr. Fitzlierbert seconded a motion—That the Town Clerk be directed to offer to such persons, as may be willing to contract for the same, the lines of the Streets, on conditions that the Timber Stumps,, and Brush-wood standing or lying on the same, be cleared off level with the surface of the ground. Also—That the Town Surveyor be directed to set out a Belt one chain wide on the outside boundary of the Town Acres, and that the clearing of the same be affected under the same conditions as the lines of the streets. Also—That an advertisement to that effect be enserted in both the newspapers. Agreed to nem. con. Mr. Hunter proposed the following resolution, seconded by Mr. Wade—That the Town Clerk, in the name of the Corporation, do forward a memorial to the Local Government, at Auckland, requesting that a Mounted Police force of six men be' appointed, for the protection of persons and property in the Borough of Wellington. The experience of the last three years having proved that the existing pedestrian police is most ineffective. Agreed to nem. con. Adjourned 'sine die.
