Saturday, October 15th, 1842

Minutes of the proceedings of former Meeting read and confirmed.

Motion made by Mr. Lyon, and seconded by Mr. Fitzherbert, that J. Park, Esq., be appointed Town Surveyor, carried nem con. Motion made by Mr. Johnson, and seconded by Mr.; Molesworth, that John Smith, Esq., bd appointed 1 •Treasurer for the Corporation, carried nem eonu -..i

Motion made* by Mr. Lyon, and seconded by Mr.j Wade, That the salary of the Town Clerk be fiked’dt j£ J SO per annum, carried nem con. --- :' Motion made by Mr. Lyon, seconded by,Mr. Fitzherbert. That the salary of the Town Surveyor be fixed at i?SO per annum; carried nem con. ' Motion, made by Dr. Dorset, seconded by Mr. Wade, : That the Mayor do apply to the Principal Surveyor of the New Zealand Company, for the plan of the Town of, Wellington, attested by the Surveyor-General of New Zealand, carried nem con.

Also, that the Town Surveyor be desired to attend the Council on Tuesday next the 18th instant, carried nem con.

Letter from the Secretary of the Committee of management of the Exchange Rooms, offering the use of the rooms upon certain conditions, for the sittings of the Council, read and considered.

Moved by. Mr. Hort, and seconded by Mr. Waitt, That the.farther consideration of the terms therein proposed be deferred until the next sitting of the Council, in order to obtain estimates of the expense of repairing thesame. agreed to nem con. Letter from Mr; Mac Gregor, soliciting compensation for loss of time and trouble for giving the time at meridian, -by. firing a gun, read and considered. ~ Resolved, That the application be.rejected. /Letter from Mr., Baker Polhill, soliciting the uppointment of Town Ranger of Public Reserves;

Also, a Letter from Mr. Charles Souter, on the same subject;

Also, a Letter from Mr. W. B. Burgess, soliciting the office of Treasurer ; Also, a Letter from Mr. Charles Fraser Bell, soliciting the offices of Postman, Crier, and Beadle; and, A Letter from J. W. Graves, offering his services for any appointment the Council might have to fill up; being severally read, Moved by the Mayor, and seconded by Mr. Lyon, That the consideration of the appointment of the remaining necessary Officers be postponed till further notice. By Mr. Lyon, seconded by Mr. Waitt, motion made, That the Council do now adjourn till Tuesday next, the 18th inst., at half-past nine o’clock, for the dispatch of business. Also, that notice of the business be posted on the Town Hall. (Signed) G. HUNTER, Chairman.
