The number of unemployed in the town of Paisley, by the latest account that we have seeti, was 12,260. We are glad to observe, however, that to alleviate in part this severe distress, the Land and Emigration Commissioners had furnished the means of emigrating to such of the unemployed as possessed certain qualifications—the emigration to he exclusively to New Zealand. The Duchess of Argyle, the first ship for the conveyance of those found qualified, was to sail towards the end of May, and 350 applications had been made fora passage by that vessel, some of which,- however, were rejected.
