Emigration of Troops for Affgiianistan. From the Britannia , of April the 16th.
On Thursday morning considerable interest prevailed in the vicinity of London-bridge, owing to the arrival and embarkation of troops for India. At eleven o’clock, about 260 volunteers from the 10th, 12th, and 29th, embarked on board of the City of Canterbury steamer, for Herne-bay, to join the 45th regiment, "now completed, at Canterbury, as well as the 78th Highlanders, who are expected to leave England in the latter part of the ensuing week. At twelve o’clock, 270 men belonging to the 10th regiment, under the command of Major Gordon, arrived at Vauxhall, by the Southhampton Railway, from Winchester, and proceeded, with their band playing, to London Bridge Wharf, followed by an immense concourse of people, where they embarked on board the Diamond Steam-boat Company’s steamer the Topaz for Tilbury Fort. Their departure for India will take place in the course of a few days. The last division of the 29th regiment, now forming at Tilbury Fort, left London Bridge on Friday morning at seven o’clock; and, on their arrival at Gravesend, proceeded on board the troop-ship Glenelg, which will sail immediately for the seat of war, together with several other troop-vessels. The 29th consists of four companies, amounting to 1,704 men.
