TO THE ELECTORS OF THE PROVINCE OF AUCKLAND. GENTLEMEN, —I beg to offer myself as a candidate for the office of Superintendent of the Province of Auckland, now vacant by the resignation of John Williamson, Esq. In doing so thus early, I wish to avoid the more formal process of waiting for a requisition, being aware that requisitions on such occasions, are simply expressions of party feeling, which mmy case I wish to avoid. Belong to no party in the 1 rovince, I am under no personal engagement to serve any; and I do not now wish to lay myself under anv party obligations. My sole desire in coming forward at this juncture, is to serve the Province to the best of my ability; and unless elected to the office to which I aspire by a very general record of public feeling in ray favour, I have no wish to be returned, well knowing that unless I am placed in a strong position, ray means of usefulness will be greatly impaired. . J shall have another opportunity of expressing my views as to the duties attached to the office—meanwhile, I beg to solicit the support of all those who have confidence in my character and ability for the trust thus sought, pledging myself if my election should be secured to promote as far as possible the prosperity of the province.
