CHAMBER OF COMMERCE
The regular monthly meeting of this body took place on Thursday afternoon last in the Chamber, Fortstreet. Present Messrs. C. Davis, Bain, .J. S. Macfarlanc, Harrop, Rattray, David Graham, and the chairman, J. A. Gilfillan, Esq. The minutes of the proceeding meeting having been read and confirmed, the letter from the Hon. Crosbie Ward, PostmasterGeneral, acknowledging receipt of a letter conveying a resolution of the Chamber on the postal servico, was read, and ordered to lie on the table. The chairman then stated that there was no further business before the Chamber, but, as he had been spoken to by many on the subject of the late miscarriage of the Augusl mail, ami tho advisibility of preventing such a recurrence by the transmission of an English mail per Lord Ashley via Sydney ? be would take this opportunity of stating thfll
he had written to tho Postmaster suggesting such a course, and that with his usual willingness to promote the public convenience, Mr. Corbett had replied'that an English mail should be made up for the Lord Ashley on the Ist. and that due notice thereof should be given to the public. A desultory conversation on the postal arrangements then took place, after which the Chamber dissolved.
