Nbw-Zkalandkh Office, Friday, Sept. sth, 1802.
The only foreign arrivals of the week have been the brig Reliance from Hobart Town, with an assorted cargo, a quantity of lumber, and a number of passengers ; the schooner Coral Queen from the South Seas with guano; and schooner Osprey from Rorotonga with fruits coffee, and other tropical produce. From Otago, Lyttelton, Wellington, and Napier we have had quite a fleet of brigs and schooners, many of them cattle laden. Of these, the Yarrow has been most unfortunate, bringing but 30 into harbour out of ltd head shipped. The departures were the Lord Ashley, tor Sydney, with a full cargo of colonial produce ; the barque Royal Charlie for Callao, in ballast ; for which port the ship Messina sails to-morrorf. The supplies from the coast are nominal; 440 bushels wheat, 40 bushels maize, 12 cases jams, 1120 lbs honey, 1(11 lbs lard, 20 lbs butter, 12 dozen eggs. 3 cwt. onions, 29 cwt, salt pork, 51 cwt. bacon, 5 tons kauri gum, 1 boat, 400 feet house blocks, 1000 ft. timber, (!!) tons fire-wood.

AUCKLAND STOCK AND SHAKE MARKET, Auckland Stock Exchange.
The transactions in the Share Market during the past month have been few in number and amount. The principal demand for stock has been that of the New Zealand Bank, the shares of which now command freely a premium of j to I per Cent. beyond the amount of the calls paid. Even at this quotation holders are disinclined lo sell as they justly look to this stock as a safe and profitable investment. In reviewing the Bank returns for the quarter ending the 3oth of June last, and noting their contents, as far as they relate to our local establishment, the shareholders therein are fortified in their opinion of the soundness and stability of that institution by the facts which those figures disclose, The am out of assets up to the above named period was £"706,582 and that of liabilities .£307,773, showing a balance in favour of the Bank of £100,8(19' The total amount under discounts was £222,81'8, and that of deposits bearing Interest£'243,222, in addition to £87,513 as balances on current accounts. These results cannot fail to be highly satisfactory, not only to the shareholders, hut to the public at large, as they truly indicate the progress of the Province and the elasticity of its commerce. The prompt success which attended the Gas Company in its formation is a satisfactory proof of its necessity, and it is hoped that no time will be lost in maturing the whole of its details, in order that the public may be favoured in the ensuing winter with the benefit of this new light. The time is near at hand when the question of the railway from this city to Drury will again be brought before the Provincial Council. The incessant rains of the last five months have rendered the ordinary roads almost impassable, and have established the best evidence in favour of that undertaking. It is to be hoped for the sake of the interests of the public, that its former opponents will now be convinced of the absolute necessity of having the railway constructed as soon as possible, so that the coals of the Drury mines, the agricultural produce of the whole of the locality through which the line will traverse, as well as the passenger traffic, may be conveyed between the termini with the least possible delay. The mining operations at Coromandel have been retarded by the inclement state of the weather, but as soon as that impediment has been removed, we may expect to hear of some rich discoveries. My confidence in the auriferous quality of the reefs has bepn strengthened by every fiesh lest that I have made, and I have not the slightest doubt that as soon as the fitst crushing machinery is properly at work, we shall arrive at most satisfactory results. The following information has just been supplied me by one of my correspondents:—" Watson's company are putting a drive into the reef on the upper range on Paul's land. All parties on the leaders in the Driving Creek are hard at work. Keven's reef has been struck in each claim. Claims are being taken up fast on all the live reefs on Precce's point, each of these has been found to contain a large per ceutage of gold. The gold on this side of the harbour is much heavier and of a richer color than that on Paul's land; this land i« one mass of quartz. A luge portion of the intended township of Kingstone is quartz reel'-. Turner's company have driven in about 300 feet. Several reef* have been discovered near Firth iV Co's, mill, which are extremely rich. Kour reefs have been found in (he old gold creek, the Matawai. Near to the last place is a block ol land full of quartz reefs ; the block contains about 11,000 acres, and quartz crushing machinery may there be worked by water power.'' New Zealand Stock.
