RESIDENT MAGISTRATE'S COURT.

WEDNESDAY, AUGUST 6th, 1862. ASSAULT. Alexander Crombic, master of the ship " Queen of the North," was charged by William How, carpenter of the same ship, with an assault, on or about 25th of April last There being no appearance, the case was dismissed. DRUNKENNESS. Robert Bennett, Andrew Wine, and James Kirk, were each fined ss. and costs, or 20 hours hard labour; and James Kelly 10s. and costs, or 48 hours hard labour, for the above offence. THURSDAY, AUGUST 7th. > CLAIMS FOE DEBT. Ring v. Barry.—This was a claim for £3 14s. 6d. for timber supplied. Defendant not appearing, judgment was given for plaintiff. Carlin v. Ferguson.—A claim for 16s. 6d., being damages for a boat injured by defendant Defendant not appearing, judgment was given for plaintiff". Burt v. Buller.—Plaintiff sued for £5 damage!, for not receiving a month's notice previous to defendant's leaving his employ. The evidence went to prove that defendant did give him a month's notice, and having afterwards entered on a weekly agreement, there was no occasion for another month's notice. Judgment for defendant. Malstead v. Otto.—This was a claim for £2 14». for wages for labour. The case was adjourned till next Court day (Thursday). The cases of Reid v. Nicholson, Muffins v. Foley, Ring v. Rooney. and Somerville v. Green, were settled out of Court. The following cases were paid into Conrt:—Ring v. Herz, Ring v. Evans, Ring v. McDonald, Somerrille v. Parker, Hill v. Ensor. There being no appearances in the following cases, they were dismissed:—Deane v. Miller, White, r. Dalgleish, Justin v. Harris, Ashman v. McCartie. deserter. Alfred B. Neville was charged with being a deserter from the 40th regt. Ordered to be handed over to the Military authorities. DRUNKENNESS. Joseph McFarlin was brought up on a charge of the above offence, and fined ss. and costs, or 24 hour* hard labour.
