CITY BOARD.
WEDNESDAY, AUGUST 6th, 1862. Present—Messrs. Beveridge, Cadman, Darby, Finlay» Macready, and the Chairman. Mr. Stannus Jones. The minutes of the previous meeting having been read and confirmed, Mr. Cadman moved the resolution standing in his name—" Thht the Chairman be requested to apply to the Provincial Government for ihe necessary plans and maps of the city for the use of the Board." This resolution was seconded by Mr. Beveridge and carried. Mr. Beveridge then moved and Mr. Macready seconded—" That the Chairman apply to his Honor the Acting Superintendent, to place in the bank to the credit of the Board the sum of £2,000, voted by the Provincial Council for the construction of the city main sewer." Also, " That the Chairman apply to his Honor the Acting Superintendent for an advance of £SOO for the purposes of the Board, upon the terms mentioned in his Honor's letter of the 21st July last." Carried. Mr. Finlay, in moving—" Tbat the Board engage the services of five men to supply lists of all the properties and holders of the same ; also, the frontages • to the different streets," said—that he had had aa interview with the Superintendent since the last meeting, and had received from him an expression of willingness to forward the work of the Board in every possible way. Mr. Beveridge seconded the motion. Mr. Macready said that, though he did not intend offering any opposition to the motion, he still thought the plan of appointing one responsible person to undertake the work a better plan. Mr. Finlay having replied, the motion was put and carried. In accordance with a motion tabled at the previous meeting, Mr. Finlay moved —"That the Chairman be requested to apply to his Honor the Superintendent for the whole of the metal broken in the gaol, at the rate specified in his Honor's letter of the 24th inst." This motion was (seconded by Mr. Cadman and carried. Mr. Beveridge then proposed and Mr. Cadman seconded the following motion : " That the Chairman apply to his Honor, the Acting Superintendent, to supply the Board from the Registry Office with a list of the registered owners of property within the city, the measurement of the various allotments, and such other information as may be available from the register, to assist the assessors in making up the assessment roll." This motion was also carried. Certain correspondence having been then read by the Chairman, a iong desultory discussion arose as to the terms on which the assessors undertook the duties entrusted to them ; after which the meeting separated
