AUCKLAND LOCAL STEAM NAVIGATION COMPANY.

A General Meeting of the Shareholders of this Company took place at the Exchange Hotel, on Saturday last. Mr. Salmon having been called to the Chair, the bon. Secretary informed the Meeting that the sixth clause of the Rules, postponed for further consideration, had been submitted to Mr. Whitaker who had suggested an amendment in that and the ninth clause. The clauses, as amended, having been read, were put to the Meeting and carried. The Constitution ami Rules of the Company will he found in onr advertising columns. A ballot for directors was then taken, Mr. Whitaker and Major Greenwood having been called upon to act as scrutineers. The following five gentlemen were elected directors :—Messrs. W. S. Grabmne, J. Salmon, J, Mackv, D. Simpson, and W. C. Daldy. On the motion of Mr. \\ oodbonso, the three first gentlemen were appointed Trustees.

The shares then taken amounfel to 7f*(3; —hut, since then, wo are informed that nearly 9 r >o, of the full complement of 1200, have been subscribed for. A deposit of XI per share has been paid into the hands of the Secretary, and a call of 30s. per share, it will be seen, has just been made. This has been done, in order that the directors may take advantage of the return to Sydney of the Wiliam Denny , using every diligence to profit by the steamers now offering for sale in the Australian Colonies, and thereby to get the Company into effective working order by the time the season for the shipment of produce shall have arrived. As this is a matter of the utmost importance, not only to the best interests of the Company, but of the Province at large, it is to be hoped the call wili be promptly honoured.
