HAPPY NEW YEAR. In the shadow of Hie night At the portal of the year. Hark the chimes the darkness smite Voicing earthward loud and clear— Happy New Ye*r! Faint, remote, and far away, Over vales of distant shires, Old Cathedral belfries gray Signal to surrounding spires— Happy New Year ! All the City's branching ways Throb with veins of festal light Round the injle's grateful blaze Fervent wishes friends uniteHappy New Year I Warm homeshearthborn incense springs From the hamlet and the halli Sweet the mallow joy-bell rings Benediction over all Happ) New Year Forrow hears and smiles apart, Mopes that falter'd now grow strong; Long still'd echoes of the heart Det'p reverberate the Bon^— Happy New Year! Fold the rc-ord, turn the leaf, Hail the future fo her throne; Love's *s true a* life is brief, iron ui on to joy* unknown— Happy New Year! Friends and brothel B proved and tried. In the Btr«»of year* gone by, Hand in hand, and side by side ."-well the poean pealing highHappy New Year' Oiye again your vows renew, Once more for the strife prepare.
