SYDNEY MARKETS.— Friday. Aprils. The Mills.— Messrs. Barker and Co; : A moderate supply of wheat has arrived this week, and for prime samples 10s. 6d. to lls. has been given. Flour remains at £27 for fine and £25 for second quality por SOOOlbs. About 1000 barrels very superior American flour have been received. Bran is very scarce, owing to an increased demand, while the supply has fallen off; present price, 2s. Gd. per bushel. Mr. Breillat: Wheat is still but sparingly supplied, and advanced prices given; prime samples realise lls. Flour remains at last quotation, £27 per ton for fine, and £25 for seconds. Bran, 2s. Gd. per bushel. Air. Smart; There has been very little wheat in the market this week, and previous rates have been obtained. Fine flour is firm at £‘ 7, seconds, £25 per 2000lbs. Bran 2s. Gd. per bush !. Alessrs. Furlong and Kennedy : The supply of wheat continues to be limited, and best samples are worth lls. Bd. per bushel. Flour is without alteration. Bran, 2s. Gd. per bushe'. Stock for Slaughtering. —The supply of first-rate cattle has fallen off this week, and very good are searce. A superior lot, 40 head Durham-bred cattle were bought of Air. Fitzgerald by Alessrs. Richards and Cleeve, at £5 per head; a prime lot of 100 head, weighing SOOlbs., were sold by Mr. W. Lawson to Alessrs. New and Rutter, at £4; and Air. Argent purchased of Air. Eccleston 32 head, at £3. Two lots of first-rate sheep were sold at 10s. per head ; one, of 1000 head, by Air. Stanton, to Messrs. Argent and Sullivan, and the other 1200 head, by Air. Brown, to Alessrs. Samuel and Bell. Calves are selling at from 255. to 355., and lambsyit 12s. each. Pigs are in demand at Gd. per lb. Houses. —Air. Burt, of Stewart's Horse Bazaar, reports that since last week, the demand for well-broken horses, more especially heavy draught, lias increased two-fold, and prices have consequently advanced fully 20 per cent, on last week’s quotations. The sales during the week have been unusually well attended, every one apparently anxious to purchase. This demand has entirely cleared out the stock on hand. The prices have been as follows :—Heavy draught, from £27 10s. to £56 each; light ditto, £2l to £29 ditto; hacks, £ls to £lB ditto; journey ditto. £lO to £2O ; gigs, £2B .to £37 ; light carts £l4 ; drays, £lO to <£2o. Mr. Alartyn : Since last report the price of horses has slightly risen. All good horses which have been for sale have realised a fair price, viz,, good hackneys from £ls to £3O; light draught from £ls to £25; heavy ditto from £25 to £6O. For good gig and carriage horses there have been many enquiriesdurmg the week, but none for sale. Good second-hand gigs from £3O to £SO; light phmtons for one or two horses, from £SO to £l5O ; spring carts, £2O ; drays from £8 to £22. (From the 11 Sydney Herald,” April 9.) The arrival of the Borneo, on the Bth instant, with a well assorted cargo, puts us in posession of only old dates direct, her voyage being protracted, extending over a period of four and a half months—few vessels leaving in November or December make an average passage : those leaving during January and February usually run them very close. Although several vessels are due, arrivals of goods will probably faR short of the average for nearly one month. In the mean time, we must bo much inconvenienced to supply a legitimate demand, stores being nearly all clean swept. Goods are daily advancing in price, and thousands of tons are now to fill the vacancies caused by our very deficient supply. Acid, sulphuric—Scarce ; quoted 4s. Gd. per lb. “ Tartaric, fair demand, at ss. Gd. to 6s. Ale—‘‘John Patchett,” sold at £9 10s. to £lO for hogsheads, and 15s. tor bottled. Almcnds—in demand, market bare; Valentia, soft shell, and Jordan. Apples, dried, limited stock, panted at 7*d. Arrowroot—Brisk demand for East India ; quoted at Gd. per lb. Bacon Much wanted. A small parcel fine would fetch 13d. to 14d. Bags—3-busbel, hemp, quoted at Ids. to 175,, and in few hands. “ Gunnies— Market bare, quoted Bs. to 10s. Blue—Limited stocks, at 13d. per lb. Brandy—Stocks run exceedingly low. At present rate of consumption there is not four weeks’ supply,

bonded and afloat; quotations are 1/s. to 10s. per gallon. Cases are in brisk demand. Market bare. Butter—Our market is run exceedingly bare. A large quantity, say 800 to 1000 firkins would lealize Itid. to 18d. per lb., of fine Irish. Candles— Moulds, are firm at 6}d. to 7d. Ihe advance is attributable to high rates ruling for tallow, and a brisk demand. • “ Stearine, German, French, and English, are being largely consumed. Sales are readily effected at 15d. and ]6d. for fine samples, and the trade are fast running out of stock ; shipments are heavy for southern ports. Canvas, quoted at lid. to Is. for assorted numbers of finest make. Cement—Quoted at 18s. to 20s. per barrel, and limited stock. Cheese —Brisk trade at Is. and lid. per lb. Cider—Bottled much wanted. Cigars—Speculative demand, at 80s. to 82s. Coffee—Sales at lOd. to lid., and large consumption. Copper—Without enquiry, except for light, now selling at 13d. to 18d. Cordage—Brisk demand for small Manila or Calcutta lines. Currants—Limited stock, quoted at Is. to 13d. Figs—None offering —much wanted. Fish—Salmon, in tins and salted, sardines, ling, codfish, herrings, red in tins, and white in firkins and half-barrels, are in brisk demand and realize extravagant rates. Flour—ls quoted at the mills at £27 per ton—stocks low. The Van Diemen’s Land wheat must have been harvested ore this, we may therefore expect some up from that quarter; but even there very high rates rule. Fruit —Bottled, in brisk demand, and very limited stock with extreme quotations. Furniture —Where manual labour is required all goods are at extravagant rates; importations have realized 100 to 300 per cent on cost. Geneva —We have been so long without arrival of any moment, and working on our stocks continually, prices have been run up considerably ; quotations from second Lands are 265. to 28s. Ginger—Without enquiry. Glass —Arrivals fall short of demand. Gunpowder—Canisters in demand ; none offering. Hams —Good to best York command Is. to 14d. readily. Hops—Fine Kent much wanted, or fresh American, at I6d. to IBd. Jams and Jellies—Market bare; quotations at extravagant rates. Iron—Of sizes, in bars, Loop, sheet, and plates, in demand . Lead Pipe—Sizes in demand at very full rates. “ Sheet—Market quiet. « White—in demand at 28s. upwards. Liquorice—Very scarce. Molasses—W anted. Mustards—Quoted at 13s. to 145., and Bs. to 9s. for half-pounds. Nails—ln demand. Nitre—Very dull. Nuts—ln demand, at full rates. Oars—Market bare of small sizes. Oatmeal—Heavy stocks, but full consumption. Oats—ln brisk demand, at high prices, owing to extreme rates ruling for maize. Oil—Black saleable at 35/. to 40/. “ Sperm, hut little doing in this article, since the discovery of our gold fields. “ Linseed, in drums, wanted, market run hare; shipments have been heavy to the southern ports. Oilmen’s stores much wanted, market run bare owing to non-arrivals of expected British shipping. Paints—Without enquiry. Pepper—Market very bare. Perfumery—lnvoices bring extreme rates for suitable goods. Pickles— Recent sale, 14s. for pints ; market very bare. Pimento—Wanted. Pipes—Market bare. Pork—lrish in demand. Porter —Continued demand and limited supply at 10/. to 11/. for hogsheads, and 17s. to 18s. for bottled, Ist brands. Raisins—Muscatels, market bare, quoted at ltd. to 15d.; Eleme, 7d. Rice—Fine Patna saleable at 20s, upwards; high rates of provisions, grain, and fodder of all descriptions cause an increased demand for rice; heavy sales reported. Rosin—Still a bare market. Rum—Quotations 3s. 9d, to 4s. for 10 o. p., and 4s. 3d. to 4s. 6d. for 30 o. p.; large trade in New South Wales distilled. Saddlery—Brisk demand, which the trade are unable to meet. Sago—Stocks being fast reduced, the principal holder looks for higher rates. Salt—Baskets and jars in demand, stocks light. <( Coarse Liverpool, very moderate stock, quoted at £7. “ Fine stoved in demand at £5 ss. to £5 10s. Rock, quoted at £lO.
