H.M.S Torch arrived yesterday, having called at the undermentioned ports since last reported off St. Paul’s, from whence she sailed 29tb January, having surveyed the islands: bore up for Swan River in a heavy S.E. gale, arrived 10th February, sailed March 1; arrived at Bunhury March 2, sailed March 6: arrived at Albany March 11, and sailed again on the 18th. The Torch is an iron boat of 340 tons and 150 horse power, built in 1844 by Sir W. Symonds, Surveyor of the Navy. She has encountered very severe weather since leaving England ; her small stowage of coals (only six days), and the impossibility of obtaining supplies of fuel at the various ports has caused the length of passage. —Sydney Herald, April 8. The screw-steamer City of Melbourne was sold yesterday, by Mr. Mort, to tho Australasian Steam Navigation Company, for £6850. There was a large attendance of persons connected with the steam and coasting trades, but the biddings were very slack. There is a very general impression that the price given for the Clarence last year will induce owners of steamers in England to send out a great many to this colony, and as intelligence of several being about to sail in November and December lias been received, some of them may be shortly expected, which renders persons less willing to invest in steamers than they were a few months since, notwithstanding the many places at which they are required. We understand the City of Melbourne will be placed on the Clerance River line.— lb., April 9.
