SOUTHERN DIVISION AND PENSIONER SETTLEMENTS.
On Wednesday the nomination for these Electoral Districts took place at Onehunga, before Charles H. Lawlor, Esq., the Returning Officer. Mr. James Macky was proposed by Mr. Thos. Henry as a fit and proper person to represent the Southern Division. Mr. William Goodfellow seconded the nomination. Captain Porter was proposed by Mr. Win. Buckland, seconded by Mr. James Williamson. Mr. James Farmer was proposed by Mr. Joseph May, seconded by Mr. James Magee. For the Pensioner Settlements, Alderman Patrick Dignan was proposed by Mr. Murphy, seconded by Mr. Brennan. Alderman William Mason was proposed hy Mr. Smith, seconded by Mr. Fitzpatrick. The candidates for each District severally addressed the electors. The polling took place on Thursday at Onehunga, aud at the additional polling place at Howick, at which Edward Mayne, Esq., presided for the Returning Officer. At the close of (he poll the numbers stood as follows:— For the Southern Division—Macky, 217; Porter, 168; Farmer, i 22. For the Pensioner. Settlements—Dignan, 235; Mason, 178. At 12 o'clock, yesterday, the Returning Officer declared Messrs. Macky and Porter duly elected /or the Southern Division, and Mr. Dignan lor the Pensioner Settlements.
