To the Editor of the New Zealander.
Sir, — May I beg of you to insert in your columns the enclosed Memorandum obtained from the Cress well, the same|proving tbe utter impossibility of my signalizing her owing to the state of the weather, for I could not have seen her as far off as Point llodney. This will exonerate me, I trust, in the eyes of the public, and prove the shallowness of the remarks made by tbe Editor of the Southern Cross against me. I must also state that the Cresswell was seen by John Tiller, of the Fortune, cutter, off the Kawau late in tbe afternoon ; at that time it was very misty. I am ready also to meet the Fditor of the Southern Ctoss any Court of Enquiry and prove the falsity of his remarks. — I remain Sir, your much obliged servant, Thomas Duder. Signal Station, Mount Victoria, July 20, 1852.
