Sydney Markets. — Friday, July 20.
The Mills. — At Messrs. Barker and Co.'s mills a good supply of colonial has been offered during the week, the greater part of which came by the road, and was purchased at irom 7s. 6d. to 9s. 6d. according to the quality of the sample. Flour has fallen £2 per ton present quotations being £25 for fine, an £'22 for second quality, per ton of 2000lbs. Brau Is. to is. 2d. per bushel. Mr. Briellat's mill — The supply of wheat from the interior con'inues to fall off, no large parcels having been offered for sale during the week. There is, however, no disposition to purchase, except at reduced rates, the highest price for the best wheat being Bb. 6d to 9s per bushel. Holders of imported wheat ,\re storing for high prices, but the quantity in the market is very small. A farther decline has taken place in flour, owing to heavy impoitations, fine being now £25 and seoonds j£23 per toil. Bran Is. to Is. 3d. per bushel. — Mr. Smart's Mill : Wheat, Bs. to 9s. per bushel, very lUtle -arrived ; Flour— fine. £25 per 2000 lbs. and .£23 j for second quality ; Bran, £5 for 2000 lbs. Maize.— 3s. 6d. to 4?. Oats.— 'As. to 4s. 3d. Barley. — English, for malting, 4s. 6d ; Cape 4a. 3d. Potaioes.— Best Van Dieraen's Lajul are selling at iftper ton; New Zealand. £3 toi.3 10&; and Colonial are almost unsaleable, while the stocks imported remain on hand. Biscuit.— At Wilkie's Bakery, the prices are as follows:— Cabin, 3Gs; pilot, 365; and ship, 30s. per cwt. FoiMor. — But a moderate quantity of hay has airived to market during the week, but most of the dealers having supplied themselves from the previous extensive arrivals, many of the sellers have had to submit to a serious reduction in p] ice, many loads having gone at so low a figure as £2 ss. per ton, while we have not heard of anything above £4 having been given. Straw is scarce and commands fioni £2 to £2 10s. Green food 6d. per bundle, wholesale. Cattle, &c., pou &i,AUGHrnt. — Good cattle continue to be -ray scarce; sheep have been better supplied this week, but by no means in excess of the demand. J?or both descriptions of stock, in good condition, there is a remunerating market, which is likely to continue. The state of the market may be gathered from a few quotations of actual transactions during the week : a lot of eighty five cattle were sold at two prices, averaging 38b. all round ; 112 at two prices, aveiaging 40s. per head: 106 at 403. per head ; 130 at 42i» ; 80 at two prices, averaging 455 ; 159 ditto, averaging 545; and 110 at 59s per bead. A lot of 400 sheep were sold at 7s ; 1200 at 7s. 6d; 600 at 7s. 9d. ; 100 at 95.; and 1500 ut 10s. per head. Calves are to be bought at all prices from 10s. each, ieally good ones being worth 235. to 255 : lambs, 6s. to 7s. Pigs are in demand ; large fat pigs fetching from Sid to 3d, and small shop pig= 35 per. lb. ltbicHLßs' MtAT. — The carcase butchers supply beef and mutton at l^d for bes(, arid Id for second quality. Horses. — The boise mark, t during the past week, Las suffered a reaction, consequen. tipon the nutnemus return parties from the diggings. Cart hoi set. wh.cn a month since readily brought J&2O, are now barely saleable. Unbroken and poor horses are quite unsaleable.
