No. I. Liabilities. Here is the very large increases of leveri per cent, during the last three months, and of neaily twenty, eight per cent, duiing the year. r lhe year's increase nTera«Ps considerably more thau £1 per head ot the entire" population ol the colony. Bolh in the year and in the qucvier, the Deposits have increased in all the Banks.
Notwithstanding the outcry raised last year against the impolicy of encouraging the Anglo-C ilonial Banks in their competition with the stiictly colonial institulions, it is palpable from these figures that the capi-tdli-ts of the colony are far fioin having been influenced by the many complaints and arguments which were then urged, While the Deposits have increased in the two Colonial Banks, during the past qua«ter, by £6,700, and during the past year by £77,300 ; in the two English Banks they have increased, dttvmt? the quarter, by .£93 600, and during th< year by £254,600,
* The returns ttom (hi-. Bank, (or the past quarter, relate to the new Company: the louapanson is therefore between the transactions of the old Bank and those of the new one.
The proportion of Deposits held by the respective Bunks, in each of the last four quarters, was about as follows : —
Thus the propoition of Deposits held by the English Bmk», compared with those held by their colonial rivals, is neaily as three to one.
