Friday, August 16. — The market msy be conuidcred inactive for purchases making for the interior. Coffee shows a very decided decline «od is nominal. There hai been an increased inquiry Tor brown sugar, and the market i» li.mer. Breadstuffc about the lame. Building materials arc without mutsriul change, unless lots of lumber, forced on the market to pay freight.— Alta California, Aug. 17 .
Laws regulating the Importation of Brandy, Spirits, Beer, Porter, and Refined Sugar into California or United States possessions :— Brandy can only be imported in packages of not less capacity than 15 gallons.—Law, March 2, 1847. Gin and Spirits of all kinds (except brandy as above, and arrack and sweet cordiali) can only be imported in packages of not less capacity than 90 gallons. — Law, March 2, 1799. Beer, Ale, and Porter, can only be imported in pack* ages of not less capacity than -JO gallons ; and, it bot. tied, in packages of not less than six dozen.— Law, March 2, 1799. 1 Refined Sugar can only be imported in packages containing not less than (iOO pounds ; and in vessels of not leis than 120 tons.— Law, March 2, 1799. The articles -above named, when imported in less than the logalizcd packages, arc subject to seizure and forfeiture, together with the vessel in which they are imported.
