His Excellency the Governor has directed the republication, for general information, from the Port Phillip Government Gazette, of the following Notice, relating to the Light at Shortlands Bluff, and the course for entering the Port Phillip Heads. By His Excellency's command. E. Deas Thomson.
TO MARINERS AND OTHERS. siiortland's bluff light-house. His Honor the Superintendent directs it to be notified, for general information, that a " New fixed white Light of the second class," consisting of 24 lamps, is now exhibited at the Bluff, in place of the former light of 9 lamps. This light will be exhibited from sunset until suniisc. The necessary alterations of the column for the erection of the new lantern have not occasioned any change in the original height of the light. Rattlesnake, and the first edition of the Chart published by Captain Stokes, of H. M. S. licagle, containing a serious misprint in the bearing laid down as the course for vessels entering the Poit Phillip Heads, Masteni of vessels should be very careful in examining their Chads, and altering, should they give the bearing of north-east by east (N.E. by E.). Such a course must inevitably cany vessels pursuing it fiom the outside, directly up;n the point Lonsdale Reef. The prqpvr course for enteiing -tbe Port jPnil^fl^ads is north-east by north (N.E. by N.). Supeiintendent's Office, Alclbdurtlte, 7th May, 1 850.
