THE ARCTIC EXPEDITION.
The subjoined interesting communicati >n, renewing our hopes of the safety of Sir John Frank'in and his gallant companion!, is irivpn by ibn United Statei paper, the New London Chronicle, of Oct. IB — Interesting an: Important Newt from Baffin's Bay. Capt. Chapel, of the barque M'Lellan, of this port, from Davis's Smite, who arrived yes'erdiy morning, furnishes information which will at feast lit- read wiili inter st in the United Stales, aud indeed in every part of the world. Ahout the Ist of August, whi ! e tho M'Lellan lay in lat. 74, long;, 72, the natives of the coast came on board the Chief Han, an English whaleman, and gave information by signs that two large ships were thfin lyinjj; in Prince Regent's Inlet, ami had been there fast in the ice for four seas >ns, and being asked with regard to those on hoard whether they were dead or alive, they replied in the Same way that the crews were not " asleep" (that is not dead), nut were all well. This iniforrantion was considered by the Englishmen and by Gaptain Chapel ai indicating that the ships oi Sii John Franklin ware cleaily meant. The Englishman landed at Cnpe Hay, some distance from Pond'a Bay, a qnantity of coal and provisions, with which the ship was furnished by the British Gorernment ft r the use of the long missing ships, if they should chance to cime there, as they would be obliged to do on their return to England. This is certainly ths latest news from that quarter, and there is a possibility, perhaps a probabilily, that the commander of the unfortunate expedition and his crewi are still alive. Heaven send that it may be so .
