Auckland and New Ulster Agricultural and Horticultural Society.

A Gentiial Mkhting of this Society was held on batmd.iy, the 24th November lust, at the Mjsonic Hotel, for the election of Officers for the ensuing year. Mnjjr Matson, President of the Society for the last year, occupied the Chair. On the motion of Mr. Hart, seconded by Mr. Dilworth, the Meeting unanimously requested that Major Matson would continue to fill the office of President during the niXt year. Mr. Hart, in making the proposition, observed that thcic wa* no member ot the Society who took Mich an inti>reat in its welfare at their former President; nor weie there any t>o well able to perform the duiies, or so much entitled to the hoi. our of that station, as M,i ; or Matson. W. F. Porter and Piiivival Berry, Esquiivs, were elected Vicii- President! ; A. Kennedy, Esq . Treasurer ; and Messrs. Baber and Fairburn, S cretanes. The following gentlemen weie then chosen to form a Commit te for 1850 :— Messrs. K. C. Bars'ow, W. Hart, R. Gruham. I. Newman, J. Farmer, T. Ch'shorn, J. Dilwortb, J. May, W. T. Fairburn, It. K. Baoer, D Hough, and Captain Salmon. The subject of the proposed M rkct-pWe was brought under notice, wlen the Secretory renl u communication from the Go\trnment, stating that fun ■ were not at its disr osal at presens for the erection of a Public Murket-place, It appeared, howevti-j to be the

opinion of tin Meeting that the necessity for some building for this purpose was so great, that the Society ought to endeavour to raiic funds for its erection forthwith, if the Government would only guarantee the control oi the ground and Maiket-place to the Society.
