DR. LANGS LAND ORDERS. (From Sydney Herald, Aug. 13.)
Several of the persons who came out to Moreton Baj in tho expscttitiou of getting land for the money paid by them to Dr. Lang oa account of their passageg
to this colony, having hoen in Sydney lately, complaining of the way in which they have In en treated, ths attention of the public has been drawn to the subject, and n copy of one of the " Land Orders ' having been handed to us, we present it to our readers. How Dr. Lang's conduct can bo either explained or juitificd we cannot see ; when he issued thin order he had been for upwards of a month in po«session of Mr. Howes' lettr r, informing him that the Government would in no way recognise his transactions, and a very few days alter this date he abandoned the Cook6lan<J Company, nnd started the " Port Phillip »nd Clareace River Colonization Company." The order is an official looking document, printec 1 on foolscap paper, with a " cheek" on the left hand, as if cut off from a counterpart. The words in italics arc filled in Dr. Lang's, hand* riting. " COOKSLAND COLONIZATION COMPANY.
PRELIMINARY SHIP. " Mr. — — having purchased one section, or eigTtty acres of land from the Company, and haying paid lor the same, you are hereby authorised and requested to allot the said extent of land to him from the l.mdi to be acquired by the Company, on the Brisbane or Clarence Rivers, Cookslund, Nmv South Wales, agreeably to the piinciplo of allotment, of which you will be apprised. "John Ddnmorb Lang, " Provisional {secretary. " To Mr. William Pettigrew, Resident Surveyor, CooKsland." The same party nlno holds a receipt, which is entirely in Dr. Land's hand-writing. It is iv these wordi : —
«' London, 30th October, 1848. " Receivc'd from Mr. — — , the sum of ono hundred pounds sterling, for the purchase of eighty acrei of land, in Cooksland, in Australia, in virme of which purchase he is hereby guaranteed a free passage out for pcrtoiis named on the other 6ide, [the purchaser's family] per the ship to follow the Fortitude from the port ot London.
