LATEST INTELLIGENCE.
We last night received the following letter from our valued correspondent :-» " Camp Chillianwalla, January 27. "The Sikhs have been firing numberless salutes yesterday and this morning, and eten while I write they are firing another. What all this is for we cannot imagine. "Lieutenant Bowie came into our camp last night on his parol, and returns again this evening to nis captivity. I understand that he says that the Sikhs acknowledge to the loss of 15 guns on the 13th, and that they took tluee of ours. 1 presume, therefore, that the remaining number of oar missing guns must still be in the jungle unappropriated. " I do not think that Lord Gough has any intention of attacking the Sikh camp till reinforced ; nor do 1 think there is the slightest chance of our enemy taking the initiative and attacking usi There is a wide difference between defending an entrenched camp and attacking an enemy in entrenchments. The difference the Sikhs appear perfectly to understand; and notwithstanding that their numbers are at least three times ours, Ido not imagine for an instant, they will contemplate an attack upon our present position. " Between the two camps, you must know, there is a very thick jungle, and the enemy are principally placed upon a low ridge of kills on this side of the Jhclum. " There is no news of any kind in camp, and so I may as well as close this."
