Colonial Secretary's Office, Auckland, 2nd October, 1848. FREDERICK THATCHER, Esquire, having resigned the office of Assistant Private Secretary to the Governor- in -Chief, for the purpose of entering holy orders. His Excellency takes this oppoitunity of publicly recording the high sense he entertains of the meritorious and excellent manner in which that gentleman has for so long a period discharged the very onerous duties entrusted to him •, and of expressing his most grateful thanks for the invaluable assistance which Mr. Thatcher has afforded to him. THE undermentioned pre-emption claims having been submitted to the Honorable the Attorney-General, in accordance with the directions contained in the despatch of the Itight Honorable Earl Grey, No. 41, dated 10th February, 1847 ; and that officer having reported that he is unable to certify that the purchases were made in strict pursuance of and under the restrictions contained in the notice published in the Government Gazette of 7th December, 1844. His Excellency the Lieutenant-Governor directs it to be notified, for the information of parties concerned, that the claims in question have been disallowed. Certificate. " 1 66.
