It is incorrect. — Hobart Town Courier, April 8. A Question on Flag-hoisting. — We understand that some difference of opinion existed at Devonport on Monday, with reference to Rear-Admiral W. F. Owen, who has come home in the Columbia steamvessel from North Amfrica, und has since been gazetted to the rank of Rear- Admiral, having a right to hoist his flag. The gallant Rear Admiral ruined the

question by hoisting if, when (he Commander-in-Chief, Sir J. West, ordered him to strike it. Rear- Admiral Owen diil so, but maintained his right to keep it flying; and the matter has been iefcrrcd to the Admiralty. Ciici.sr.A Hospital. — The old colours of the 3Glh Foot, lately forwaided to Chelsea Hospital, have been placed with those of the Chelsea Volunteers, on either side of the remains of the standards taken at Blenheim, and form an interesting addition to t lie many trophies with which the old hall abounds. G neral Sir Edward Pai^et, the governor of this establishment, still continues in the Isle of Wight. LiEiirFNANr.GsNEiiAb Srn. Charles Napier.— This distinguished officer con emplates remaining with his brothei, 811 Geoige Napier, at Nice, for some months, on account of the state of his health. Di:ath ok Major Gbniirai, Stebll 1 .. — This gallant officer was an old Peninsular officer. He seived in the Penmiulu with the Coldsticam Guaids, from January to July, 1809, and from February, 1811, to the end of th«t war in 1814. He entered the army in Manh, 1804, was never a lieutenant, hut w,ts made captain, June 1, 18<>9. He was never major, but became lieuttnant-rolonel, December 29. 1814 ; colonel, January 10, 1837 ; major-general, November, 1846. The Mount Stuart Elpftinstone, having the convicts on board, went down the river on the 29th, for New South Wales, taki q out tho following officers and men .— Lieutenunt Paul, of the 65th regiment of foot, stationed in New Zealand : Lieutenant Anderson, of the 9Gth regiment of foot, stationed in New South Wales ; end three sergeants, three corporals, and fifty privates of the 99tii foot, to join the head-q/iarters of the regiment in New South Wales. Trk Evpbctkd Augmcni ation. — It is understood that the snl j-ct of forming an army of le.serve is at pietent under consideration. In consequence, many suggestions are beiug made to the Government, as to the propriety of officering the same by selections fiom the half-pay list. Tub C2nd (Wiltshire) Foot.— A new stand 0 colours ate about to he presented to this gallant and distinguished regiment, which suffered so seveiely while opposing the attack of an immense body of Sikhs at Ferozeshah. The colours have been forwarded to the head quarters of the corps now at Winchester, but the presentation is not expected to take place before the spring of the ensuing year. Lieut -Colonel Short, so long connected with the corps, is at present in command. Major-general Napier — The Guernsey Star of Friday, Eays . — "We learn from good aulhoiity, that Major-General Napier's Lieutenant Governorship of Guernsey will terminate this day. We have not heard, nor indeed have we much interest in inquiriug, whethei this desirable event will be accomplished by a reiignation on the part of General Napier, or by an act of supercession on the part of the Secretary of Sta'e. With the certainty of this island being relieved of General Napier, we are not curious a 9 to minor matters. It :b expected that the General's successor will be named in about a fortnight." MILITARY MOVEMENTS. The reserve battalion of Her Majesty's 76th "Regiment was to embark early in December to relieve the 34th regiment in Corfu. The latter regiment will relieve the 79th at Gibialtar, and tha 79th relieves a regiment in Canada. As, however, the season is too early for the 79th to get up the St. Lawrence, the 34th will not leave Corfu lor Gibraltar till the early part of March. The 84 h have ingratiated themselves into the favourable opinion of a numerous circle of the residents of Coifu, and their departure will be much regretted. They have been stationed about two years at Corlu, and are geneially much esteemed by all classes.
