The Hyderabad has made a fair average pn*<;a?c ol thirteen days She took her depaiture from Port Jackson at noon «f Tuesday, the 4th inst., mill a baffling wind, which caused her to hang iti srgilt ut Sydney Light unril 4 a. m., of the follo-on* morning. But from the noon of that day until the *arne hour of the fourth succeeding she made a run of 82 1 miles, sighting Cape Maria Van Diemen early in the morning of Tuesday, the llth. Here ihe experienced a succession of cams, being unable to double the North Cape before Saturday last, when a light easterly breeze sprang up. On Sunday, at I p.m., whilst reaching off the laud to the north of Cape Brett, three sail were descried rounding that promontory going free, with top and top gallant stunsaiU, on the starboard tack. The two first were the schooners Cheerful and Deborah, w,th whom the Hyderabad exchanged numbers. The third was H. M. S. Calliope, entering the Bay cf Island*. As the Hyderabad, was, at this moment, likewise, on the starboard tack and forereaching greatly upon the Deborah, it wai evident that the ship and schooner would speedily close each other, and to facilitate their junction, Capt. Nagle kept liii vessel a point or two away. When ships at sea arc desirous of speaking each oilier it is a rule that the vesbtl going ftea shall gire way to the one upon the wind : but then again itjs usual lor the vessel thus approached to haul up the clue garnets of her mainsail, and lay her mai - top nail 10 the mast. This the Hyderabad neglicied to do, consequently the Dehorah, instead of passing under the ship's wtern, and communKMtinx to leeward, was undur the necessity of speaking from to windward, and afterwards of eroding the Hyderabad's bows. X terrible catastrophe lmd nearly resulted, Inferior in speed, the schoouer ■was barely able to pass clear of the comparatively leviathan ship, even although the one was running before and the other was jammed upon a wind— indeed, her escape could not be accomplished until the Hyderabad's mninyard was bruced flat aback. But a few feet closer and the result must have been frightful to contemplate ! The Hyderabad toek on board 353 cattle und 300 shei'p. Ut the former her loss has been about 57— he Utter have only diminished a few head. The Hyderabad sailed again for Sydney on Friday morning, bu; owui? to the strong north-east wind anchored nine miles down. The Richard JJait, has arrival from London afier a favourable pasn\ge of 114 days. She letc the Downi on the '27ih, and the Land's End on the 30ih of December. In addition to a general cargo, she has "brought a quantity of Government stores. She reports the Elora, Tui übull, as about to tail on the 30th Jan. for Wellington and other of the Company's hettltments Another vessel had likewise been chnrtcred to follow the Richard Dart, bhe lus brought but a small Mail in coabctjuence otthe Jane Catherine bydney P.O. packet b.»viu<r so shortly pieceded hei.
