FORGED DEBENTURES.

In the Supreme Court, at Wellington, Monday 2nd June, the Grand Jury presented a true bill, the Queen on the prosecution of William Rowlands against Timothy O'Mcara for forgery. After the trial of two persons for minor offences, Timothy O'Meara was indicted for forging and Miering a debenture of the value of One Pound. Mr. Brewer appeared as Counsel ori behalf of the Crown, and Mr. Holroyd, defer/ded the prisoner. The indictment xinder the statute contained counts describing it as an " undertaking," for the payment of money, and as a " warrant and oider," for the pajment of money. Mr. Holroyd took an objection to the indictment, to the effect that the debenture did not come w ithin the statute. Mr. Justice Chapman, doubted whether it was an " Order," but overruled the objection as to its being an undertaking, giving Mr. Holroyd leave to move in arrest of Judgment. The facts were very conclusive. The Juiy found the prisonei guilty without leaving the box. On Monday, the 16th June, the prisoner was brought up for Judgment and was sentenced by his Honor, Mr. Justice Chapman, to be transported for Ten Years.
