BOWLING.
i , There was a sensational linish to the final of the rinks championship of the Christchurch centre, whxch was played on the Linwood green on Satu'rday afternoon, • between Lyttelton and New Brighton. When the last head was commenced, Lyttelton requjred five points to tie and six to win, and they succeeded in scoring six, thereby winning the championship by one point. After the seventeenth heao, the scores were.. 18 to 17 in favour of New Brighton. .In the next two heads New Brighton scored a two and a three, giving them a lead of six points. Lyttelton's position then appeared to be hopeless, and it became worse when they scored a single only in the twentieth head. In the last head, however, they played to win, and, by placing their bowls in useful positions, seemed assured of severai points. The New Brighton players, who had been in excellent form throughout the game, failed badly, and when the count was .taken there was c&nsiderable siirprise wheri it was found that Lyttelton had scored, six and won the game. The result was received by the spectators with cheers, the ! two rinks being warmly congratu- ! lated on their play. j A score of six points in the last i head of a championship game under such cir-imstances is unparalleled in C'hr urch.
