NORTH SCHOOL.
.MEETING OF COMMITTEE. ' At the monthly meeting of the Oamaru North School Committee, there were present: Messrs J. Mitchcll (chairman), A. D. Gibson, W. Gillies, G. Harris, G. E. Hollands, G. A. Mitcheli, J. Newson, A. A. Stock and S. Mollison. - j The Headmaster (Mr A. G. Robertson) reported as follows: — Our roll number is gradually increasing, but the average attendance is slightly decreasing on account of illness among the youngest children. Our average for the quarter, which ends on Thursday, should be about 416. Staff. — During the month Miss Richardson, probationer, Was absent for a fortnight because she was afflicted with mumps, and Mr Hunter, who had an attack of influenza, was absent for two days. School Renovation. — The Board's workmen have now jcompleted the renovation of the school, and a splendid job they have made' of it. The additional win'dows in Standards L and II. rooms have made a great improvement, both from a hygienic and a lighting point of view. Visits. — At the public receptions accorded to the Duke of York and j to the Governor-General the chil- i dren of the North School took part. ■ We were pleased to have a visit ' from the Hon. K. A. Wright, Minister of Education, who suiiably addressed fee assembled children. , Gramophone. — The Educational Gazette for March statas that the Education Department will supply . gramophones to schools on receipt : of a' contribution 0 of M from schools, to cover cost of palcking and postal charges, and the supply of a few reco'rds. Pictures. — Now that our walls : will show off pictures to advantage, j a few more suitable pictures would : lend attractiveness to the appear- ; j ance of the rooms. \ ! j It was decided to purchase a : ! gramophone as me^itioned in the re- ; i Port. j ; The matter ot pictures for the ; ! walls was held over in the mean- ' I time. ! ! In accepting the resignation of ! Miss Woods as an assistant it was | decided to place on record the Committee's appreiciation of her long 1 and faithful service, and to convey : to her good wishes for her joy and • happiness in her new life. i It was decided to concur in the Board's proposal to appoint Miss Bessie H. Patterson as assistant ^substitute). : Accounts were passed for payj ment to tbe amount of £12 8s lOd. S Messrs Stock and Hollands were ! appointed a Visiting Committee for | the month. j It was decided to write to the | Board urging the installation of the | heating system in the infant room, | as cold weather had set in, and | there was no present provision for j warming the rooms. / General satisfaction \yas expressed with the manner in which the i renovation and improvements to the school buildings had beenf carried out, arfd it was resplved to write to the Board expressi^g gratification with the whole \yqrk that had been performed.
