V THE YORKS OVERWHELMED. ; While at a reception at the Town Ha.ll, the Duke presented Stanley Gibbs, the hoy who fought with a shark to rescue a bather in January | with the Albert Medal. It is esfimated that forty-five , thousand people passed the Royal j dais. .The visitors were greatly j amused at the number of democra- j tic salutationss shofited to them in- j cluding "Good Old Abby!" Good on vou boy!" "There's no doubt about j you Bert." Hundreds of people at- j tempted to shake hands with the j Duke and Duchess hut this was not i permitted by the authorities. j The Duchess' was so impressed J with the display at the cricket ; grounds, where twelve thousand | s.chool children formed a white rosei, . that she asked the Hon. Mutch, Minister of Education, to grant the children an extra week's holiday, at easter. Mr Much granted the Royal re- i quest. When the Duke and Duchess went slowly through the lane ways midst the huge flower, the children greeted them with deaflening cheers, prohably the most shattering noise so far of the . tour. The enormous crowd of children then broke the lines and formed round the Royal pair cheering frantically. It was a remarkable demonstration and "tiro Duke and Duchess seemed overwhelmed.
