Mr Owen N. Campbell, chief land drainage engineer of the Lands and Survey Department, has been appointed to sueceed Mr H. .T. Lowe as Comissioner for Crown Lands and Chief Surveyor of the North Auckland land district. ^ The Prime Minister (Hon. J. g. Coates) passed through Oamaru by Ihe first express foi the north yesterday. Accompanying » Mr Coates were Hon. K, S. Williams (Minister of Public Works) and Hon. F. ,T. Rolleston (Minister of Justice). The party travelled in the handsomelyappointed carriage that had been prepared for the Duke of York durr ing his tour of the South Island. Word has been received that M'r. e. C. Dowling, M.R.C.V.S., a New Plymouth hoy, who practised chemistry at Hawera prior to going to London and sccuring his veterinary degree, and now practising at Ararat, Victoria, has won third prizp in a compelition held by ihe National Veterinary iMedical Association of Great Britain and Ireland for all students at veterinary colleges to describc surgery and medical cr.scs they had attcnded.
