THE SECOND TEST.
" MELBOURNE WELL AHEAD. : WELLINGTON, March 26. The second cri'cket test match between New Zealand and the Melbourne Club was continued to-day in ideal weather, Melbourne topping the New Zealand first innings score of -317 by making 493 for nine wickets. Warwick Armstrong was an absentee. Centuries were made by, B. A. Onyons (180) and Y S. Ransford (116), H. C. Sandford being next highest score with 59. The second wicket partnership between Ransford and Onyons realised 235 runs, and the fourth wicket partnership between Onyons and Sandford 110 runs. The veteran D. McKenzie umpired in place of P. R. Waddy who left the field on Rriday. The irregu)#ar length of Merritt's i bowling and Bluni's gave the trouhle and Melbourne took 340 imnutes to compile their 493 runs, Onyons and Ransford reaching their centuries within a few minutes of each other.
