Received Friday 11.40 p.m. SHANGHAI, March 25. Thirty Japanese naval men have landed at Nanking in an endeavour to secure touch with the Japanese consulate. The situation at Shanghai is still causing the foreign authorities mu;ch anxiety and the cordon of defence is being strengthened by sand bags and hreastworks at vu'inerable points. The Southerners' attempt to clean up Chapei was only moderately successful. Hand to hand struggles between the Cantonese regulars and armed civilians continues. The Cantonese themselves have been guilty of looting. One party broke into a Roman Catholic church, decapitated the statues and theji hurled them in a creek. The strikers are slowly dribbling back. The Customs . employees resumed yesterday. ^
