Rex is first seen as a motherless colt who is driven out of the herdi of the Killer, a hideouslyspotted and fiendishly tempered stallion who has never been Vanquished in battle. When Rex reaches full growth he is a magnificent creature arid seeks.and wins a mate. She is one day captured by the Killer, who defeats Rex in battle. A natural enemy of Rex — king of all wild horses is man, but Rex was to know the worth of a raan's friendship. Hell's Hole ^uicksands are about to claim him as another victim when he is saved by a cowboy, who has been forced1 to hide in the hills to avoid the vengeance of a bad man who is out for Jim's life because he was the lucky man to win Jane Logan's love. Rex, repays his debt to the cowiby by killing a cougar that was about to spring on the man while he slept.
